1.1274 / C100 (3.6 × 40 × 500 mm)

1.1274 / C100 (3.6 × 40 × 500 mm) is an unalloyed high-carbon steel designed for exceptionally fine cutting edges. It can achieve a relatively high hardness of 60–62 HRC, is easy to work with, and is well suited for forging.
The steel can be ground to an extremely sharp edge with relatively little effort, making it an excellent choice for fine cutting tools.Due to the absence of alloying elements, 1.1274 must be quenched relatively quickly to achieve its full hardening potential. This also makes it well suited for producing blades with a hamon (hardening line).

Soft annealed

Chemical composition:

• Carbon (C): 1.00%
• Silicon (Si): 0.20%
• Manganese (Mn): 0.45%

Achievable hardness: ~60 HRC

Heat treatment:

• Harden at 820°C (1508°F) and quench in oil.
• Temper twice, for 1 hour each at 180°C (356°F).
