1.2842 / 90MnCrV8 (3 × 40 × 500 mm)
1.2842 / 90MnCrV8 (3 × 40 × 500 mm) is a manganese-alloyed high-carbon steel primarily used for kitchen knives, but it is also highly versatile. It is easy to machine, very well suited for forging, and serves as the dark-etching component in our Damascus steel.
Soft annealed
Chemical composition:
- Carbon (C): 0.90%
- Silicon (Si): 0.30%
- Manganese (Mn): 2.00%
- Chromium (Cr): 0.40%
- Vanadium (V): 0.10%
Achievable hardness: ~60–63 HRC
Heat treatment:
- Harden at 820°C (1508°F) and quench in oil.
- Temper twice, for 1 hour each at 180°C (356°F).
